Murders From The Block – First Album
Murders From the Block – An alternative rock band hailing from Italy. They have recently released their first new single “No Way Out” from their upcoming studio album Spleen, coming soon this March 2012.
The band was initially formed by lead vocalist Hillie and guitarist Slight who, after jamming out at a few studio sessions, decided to take their music a step further to form their very own alternative rock band. Needless to say, this was a critical step in forming what the band is today.
Slight and Hillie began looking for a drummer and bassist in the coming months and shortly found a drummer, Leo. A bit more effort was spent looking for the bassist and the band eventually settled on Nirvesh. Both of the new band members supplied fresh musical ideas to the group which helped take Murders From The Block’s rock sound into an aggressive alternative metal sound.
Late 2011 after countless hours spent in the studio the band was ready to release their first studio album, titled Spleen which composed of merely six tracks. More isn’t always better. Were getting the raw music, without the usual filler tracks scattered throughout.
Murders From the Block have quite a unique sound compared to most female fronted bands. Their single “No Way Out” showcases the vocal qualities Hille brings to the band. The rhythm guitars, bass guitar and drummer complement her voice wonderfully. Hillie has a pretty cool vocal range for the single. First it’s dark and monotone. The chorus she sings in a higher octave still tinged with darkness. Quite impressive, throughout the song her voice switches back and forth from the two.
The guitars are played impeccably. The opening, chorus and leads in between are extremely pleasing to the ear. Not overdone, yet not too simple either. The distortion in the opening riff sound a bit coarse but its quickly smoothed out as the drums and bass guitar kick in.
- Hillie Rocks – the vocalist of the group likes art and being able to express herself differently. Her favorite bands are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cure, Billy Talent and 30 Seconds To Mars.
- Slight Wasabi – Guitarist and one of the two original members, Slight enjoys photography, music production and guitars (no sh!t). Guitarists usually have great taste in music. Slight proves this theory as his favorite rock bands consist of Foo Fighters, Tool, KoRn, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, Radiohead and Paramore.
- Nirvesh – describes himself as a poet and bassist. States that he like sex and rock-n-roll. Favorite bands include Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Muse and Dream Theater.
- Leo – A drummer who likes Beer and the AC Milan soccer team. His influential bands consists of System of a Down, 30 Seconds to Mars, Guns N Roses and Paramore.
